ROSEBEL HAUL ROAD IMPROVEMENT PLAN

Aim of the project: The overall project focuses on the reduction of the maintenance and high tire cost due to the inadequate conditions of the Rosebel Haul Road.

The scope of the project was focused on as follow:

  1. The main and priority focus was on the Rosebel haul road due to excessive maintenance costs for trucks and vehicles.
  2. Determine the level of bearing capacity / strength of the present sub-soil
  3. Assess the bearing capacity / strength of the sections that have been filled with waste material from other sites of RGM
  4. Determine the required strength capacity of the road top layers including base and surface course.
  5. Determine changes in the vertical alignment and improvements for run off and drainage
  6. Propose options and costs for the new road structure, including options to reduce dust production.

A summary of the activities is presented below:

  1. Work method statement
  2. Traffic management procedure plan before starting investigation (safety wise)
  3. Logistic plan site investigation
  4. Topographical survey data of the haul road (longitudinal and cross sections profiles, road width)
  5. Lidar data mining area Rosebel haul road.
  6. Data on historical maintenance records of roads and trucks.
  7. Data on road structure (base, sub-base, etc.).

  9. Vertical alignment of the road.
  10. Stability of the soil (subgrade, subbase, base and top layer).
  11. Determination of the stopping distance of Haul road truck versus sight distances.
  12. Test pits made on the side along the haul road from which samples were processed.
  13. Visual inspection were done along the haul road including the sidewalks
  14. All test were done in compliance with Guidelines of Haul Road Design” by Dwayne D. Tannant and Bruce Regensburg (international standard guidelines for mining).

According to above activities a recommendation report is issued by ILACO Suriname NV which fulfill the conditions stated in the contract including different options and costs aspects
